El Sindicato de Directores de América (DGA, por sus siglas en inglés) dio a conocer los nominados al premio como Mejor Director de 2016 en diversas categorías para su entrega número 69, que se llevará a cabo el 4 de febrero próximo en Los Ángeles. En cine, los que competirán por el galardón –que usualmente es el mismo que gana el Oscar- son Damien Chazelle por La La Land, Garth Davis por Lion, Barry Jenkins por Moonlight, Kenneth Lonergan por Manchester by the sea y Denis Villeneuve por Arrival. Todos ellos compiten por primera vez por dicho reconocimiento.
